CHILD SAFEGUARDING PROTOCOL

Goal

Safeguarding the health, wellbeing and rights of minors; enabling them to participate in all dharmic activities including education, spiritual life and social engagement free from harm, abuse, and neglect.

Strategy

Safeguarding Protocol: Child protection procedures, guidelines and instructions that support the ways our dharmic community keeps children and young people safe.

The Siri Singh Sahib Corporation (SSSC) passed a motion on 5 June 2025 adopting an overarching Child Safeguarding Policy Statement regarding all children and young people that participate in dharmic community activities.

Children and young people have a right to be protected from harm. As SSSC organizations work with this population, we must have a clear set of guidelines regarding how we will keep minors safe and respond to child protection concerns.

Office of Ethics & Professional Standards (EPS) and Office of Dharmic Counsel (ODC) work together with the relevant Legacy Non Profit Organizations (LNPOs) such as Sikh Dharma Education International (SDEI) / Miri Piri Academy (MPA), 3HO International, and 3HO Europe to assess:

  • The potential risks to a child involved in our educational programs at Miri Piri Academy and youth programs at Solstices and European Yoga Festival
  • How concerned parties raise concerns
  • What is currently being done to assure young people can flourish, have positive experiences and stay safe

Ongoing activities for Oversight of Safeguarding Protocol include:

  • Routine training and awareness activities
  • Routine review of incident reports
  • Quarterly meetings with leadership of relevant LNPOs to assess, monitor and update Safeguarding procedures and activities

EPS & ODC develop Safeguarding Procedures including:

  • Responding to concerns about a child’s welfare
  • Storing child protection records
  • Preventing & responding to bullying
  • Recruiting appropriate staff and volunteers to work with children
  • Codes of conduct for all working with children
  • Managing concerns made against staff and volunteers
