3.6 Odd One Out

Other students at your yoga center have complained about Leo, and told you that he is“crazy” because of his erratic behavior. Leo sometimes talks loudly to himself during class and breathes and chants with such exuberance and it’s a distraction to everyone else. You have noticed Leo’s behavior too and find it distracting and difficult to teach while he is acting this way.

As a teacher of a class Leo attends, which response below would be the best way for you to handle this situation?

A) Speak to Leo privately after class. Review what is appropriate and inappropriate behavior in yoga class, let him know if inappropriate behavior occurs again, he may be asked to leave class and/or asked not to return.

B) Speak to Leo after class about his conduct and ask if he is seeing a psychologist for his mental health issues.

C)  Do nothing and hope the problem resolves on its own.

D) Arrange a meeting with other teachers to discuss how to deal with problem students like Leo and file a complaint with EPS.
